United States Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenant Drew C. Meeker of Aliquippa, a 2016 graduate of Saint Vincent College where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in criminology, law and society with a minor in psychology, and who completed training at the United States Marines Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia in September 2017, is being featured prominently on a new USMC recruiting poster.
The poster features a photo of Meeker in field uniform with copy that says, “MY WILL IS STRONGER THAN ANY WEAPON.”
“I thought the picture was pretty cool,” Meeker commented. “I was not expecting it to be featured in that way or that publicly.”
How did it happen? “My platoon was doing a live fire range right before Christmas in Quantico Virginia,” she explained. “After we were done conducting our attack on the range, a group of photographers came up to the women in my platoon and asked for pictures of us while we had our full kits on (kevlar, flak, rifle etc.). They took some group pictures and then they asked three of us to take some single photos and I just happened to be one of the lucky ones picked. They said they needed more representations of females in the Marine Corps portrayed in the field environment and wanted to know if we would be that for them and we, of course, said yes!”
The publication of the poster was the first time Meeker saw the photo. “We had asked them to send the pictures to our emails once they were completed but we have not received anything yet,” Meeker said. “I am not sure what else they plan on doing with them since we have not gotten any word. “
“The quote with my photo is not mine,” she admitted. “It was written by the Marine Corps. But I feel very lucky to have my picture out there and if it motivates another young woman to join, I think that would be pretty awesome! I am about to graduate from The Basic School and I found out I am going to be a Logistics Officer and will be leaving for Okinawa, Japan, in June to serve two out of my four years over there. I could not be more excited for what is to come.”
Meeker’s plan is to serve her country for four years and then apply to the FBI for work in counterintelligence.
She credits Saint Vincent College and the guidance of her advisers within the Criminology Department with helping her achieve success.
At Saint Vincent Meeker was a member of the Criminology Club and Colleges against Cancer. She participated in varsity women’s basketball for three years from 2012 to 2015 and served as captain during her junior year.
She is a 2012 graduate of Quigley Catholic High School.
Daughter of Kelly Nagy and John Meeker, she is a member of Our Lady of Fatima, Hopewell.
