Juliana RuggieroJuliana B. Ruggiero of Elkridge, Maryland, a sophomore at Saint Vincent College majoring in integrated science with minors in biology and psychology, has been elected treasurer of the Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board for 2018.

She has been active in student government as a freshman class senator and as a sophomore class senator.

Ruggiero said that she loves being involved in SGA and being able to give back to both the student body and the school. “Saint Vincent has already granted me such valuable experiences and has truly shaped the person I am today,” she commented. “I’ve always had a passion for math and I used to compete in math competitions, which I believe will be an asset and will aid in my competency for being treasurer. I really sought this position because I want to provide a voice for the student body and I think that through this position on the executive board, I can help resolve student issues and make the campus an even more enjoyable place than it already is.”

As treasurer, she hopes to continue to support the deserving clubs at Saint Vincent. “I realize that some of these clubs may not be flourishing or may not even still exist if they did not receive financial assistance from SGA,” she explained. “I would also like to give the support to those new and rising clubs that need funds to get started. Essentially, through all of this, I want to provide a platform that will appeal to a wider range of students and get even more students engaged in the campus.”

Ruggiero said that, initially, the beautiful campus of Saint Vincent attracted her to enroll. “After I went on a tour of the Sis and Herman Dupré Science Pavilion, I fell in love even more,” she recalled. “I could see that the people at Saint Vincent were really respectful and caring and that they want everyone to succeed. That was probably the point that finally made my decision. I remember talking to my mom and dad about where I wanted to go to school and I said that if I truly want to grow as a person, I really think Saint Vincent is the place for me. They both were fully supportive because even though they wanted me to stay closer to home, they knew Saint Vincent would be perfect for me.”

A consistent member of the Dean’s List, she is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Psychology Club, Active Minds Club and the Respect Life Club. A volunteer note taker, she is also a member of the intramural soccer team, women’s club rugby team and was named Rugby Rookie of the Year.

After she completes her undergraduate education at Saint Vincent, she plans to attend medical school.

Ruggiero is the daughter of Dominick and Margaret Ruggiero. She is a member Saint Augustine Church in Elkridge, Maryland.

She is a 2016 graduate of Mount de Sales Academy where she was a member of the Science National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music National Honor Society.
